158 NEVADA POLICE OFFICERS HAVE MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE IN THE LINE OF DUTY COMPLETELY FILLING THE PANELS OF THE NEVADA STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Reno, Nevada
April 10, 2026

The Nevada State Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the grounds of the Nevada State Capitol, bears the names of all 158 Nevada law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Unfortunately, so many heroes continue to give their lives for the safety of our state, that the Memorial has no space for additional names. Detective Brian Howe, coordinator for the Nevada State Law Enforcement Memorial and board member of the Nevada Police Foundation said that “this is made even more tragic by the fact we have to add yet another name this year, North Las Vegas Police Officer Jason Roscow, who was shot and killed February 4, 2025.” Officer Roscow attempted to make contact with an individual who was reported to have brandished a gun at a North Las Vegas resident. When Officer Roscow attempted to contact the subject, the man ignored him and fled. After locating the man, the subject refused commands to stop, instead opening fire on Officer Roscow, mortally wounding him.

Due to the lack of space, Officer Roscow’s name will be temporarily etched on the Memorial until permanent additional panels can be added for Officer Roscow and, unfortunately, future names. Daniel Coverley, Douglas County Sheriff, and President of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association stated that he “prays that the day will never come when additional names will be added, but that is not realistic. I urge Nevadans to step forward and support the Memorial needs as well as that of the Nevada Police Foundation.”

Because the Memorial receives no funding from any governmental agency, the Nevada Police Foundation is seeking support from the public to fund the proposed construction, continuing maintenance and upkeep. The planned construction will add two panels to the memorial.

According to Michelle Bays, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Nevada Police Foundation, $100,000 needs to be raised to fund the immediate construction of and ensure that the Memorial is maintained well into the future. “These men and women paid the ultimate price to ensure that Nevadans could live in a safe community. We have a duty to these heroes and their families to honor their sacrifices and ensure their stories are never forgotten.”

The Nevada Police Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports law enforcement throughout the state of Nevada.
